… A reason why Rampo Kitan was good even though it was so bad.
It was Lucius that actually reviewed the Anime series but I was also watching at the same time and felt the same about a lot of his complaints. I’ve just finished reading a book of short stories by Rampo so thought I’d share a little bit of how I now feel about the anime itself as well as the short stories.

Recommendation : Hesitant yes – lovely art work, some good characters and stories.
Anyone following these reviews will know that I have very little nice to say about the show but I promise my final thoughts aren’t one big rant about how much I disliked it.

I was actually surprised to see it was the final episode but also a little relieved that its over now as I can’t see how they were going to stretch it on any further.

“Henshin Ganbō” (変身願望)
Last week surprised me by actually having me on the edge of my seat for most of the second half of the episode. I kind of liked how everything came together and even though I had guessed that Namikoshi was probably still alive it still shocked me a little bit that he was still alive.
That is the highest praise I can possibly give the anime.
It NEARLY was a good episode.

“Osoroshiki Sakugo” (恐ろしき錯誤)
Twenty-Faces has become more then just a vigilante. There is a whole code that Akechi and his friend created which in basic principles predicts the future and was meant to be used to form Twenty-Faces. Akechi’s friend was the original Twenty-Faces and Akechi caught him and saw him die. Now he’s trying to crack the code as well as bring down all Twenty-Faces.

“Panorama-tō Kitan (Kōhen)” (パノラマ島綺譚(後編))
Episode 9 will be out sometime today so its about time I got to the second part of this episode. We left it off with not so much a review of the last episode but me angrily telling everyone why Kobayashi is one of the worst characters ever devised to be on a anime show.
I stand by that.
The actual murder though looks interesting so I guess the conclusion could be more interesting depending on how dependant the story it tells is on using Kobayashi.

“Panorama-tō Kitan (Zenpen)” (パノラマ島綺譚(前編))
Another two-parter doesn’t really get me excited after the terrible ending of the last one. Then again I’ve disliked the vast majority of everything that has happened since the first episode.

“Jigoku Fūkei” (地獄風景)
I won’t lie to you, sometimes just watching this anime is like a glimpse into hell but either way I’m completely determined to carry on with it so I’ll be here till the bitter end either way.

I’m not sure why the last episode wasn’t a clear cut two parter but by the sound of the title of this one we’ll get a quick explanation of Kagami and his doings (don’t we always) and then move on to a even faster new murder.

“Nijū Mensō” (二十面相)
If I had to describe this anime to you I’d say it is one that I’ve truly wanted to love but have yet to be able to love. It is a wonderful horror anime with a weird and interesting anime style. Unfortunately the main character leaves a lot to be desired and the solutions of each “case” so far that we’ve come into contact with have been extremely heavy handedly explained.
As I said I truly want to love the anime but feel more and more like I’m ripping my own hair out whilst watching it.
