Halloween 5 : The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

A year after we were introduced to Michael Myers niece Jamie Lloyd and her foster family Michael Myers returned to torment the child once more.

After “Return” saved the Franchise it was “Revenge” that failed to once more deliver. It was one of the worst earning films and critically panned as well.

The question is when the hulking bulk of Michael Myers had been shambling across our screens for little to no reason for the last decade anyway what exactly is he gaining revenge for?

Friday the 13th (2009)

Halloween got rebooted and it was really popular and suddenly reboots of Slasher films became a thing.

In 2009 Jason got the reboot treatment.

Unlike most of the remakes Friday the 13th’s didn’t bother with a hard reboot, it didn’t bother to reintroduce the character it just was another Jason movie. The only thing the reboot did was take away the problem of explaining why Jason isn’t a metal monster after Jason X, making it fit between Freddy vs Jason and Jason X or whatever. It turned back time and gave us a new human Jason who did… Just about everything that Jason did do anyway.

The final Friday the 13th film was also unpopular with critics but so was the rebooted Nightmare on Elm Street and no one on this site agrees with that.

Jason X (2001)

After the good part of a decade away from our screens Jason returned in a all new adventure once more moving out of the normal Jason wakes up from wherever he’s been left and goes on a rampage by Camp Crystal Lake or wherever he’s unfortunately been moved to (which now includes New York) to Jason wakes up on Space ship and causes havoc.

The last Jason film really before the remake in 2009 and one of the least popular by far, not really explaining how he got from hell to a bunker in the first place let alone having to deal with all the space adventures.

Saying that for me Jason X was actually the first Jason movie I saw and therefore stays the definitive Jason movie for me. You can say a bit like Doctor Who and having Your Doctor for me this is My Jason.

Friday the 13th : The New Blood (1988)

After the critical success of Jason lives it feels strange that it took till 1988 for Jason to return to our screens.

This time we go proper supernatural. I don’t really count zombification supernatural so a psychic is the most supernatural thing so far in Friday Franchise.

It is also the first movie to see Kane Hodder as Jason Voorhees. For most this is seen as the movie that created the iconic “definitive” Jason, it just took seven movies (two of which he didn’t actually kill anyone) for that to happen.

Friday the 13th : Jason Lives (1986)

Jason was back in 1986 and yes this time we meant Jason. After the failure of The Final Chapter it was decided that in Jason Lives they’d actually bring back Jason Voorhees himself.

The sixth instalment of the Friday the 13th series is the first one since the first one to actually get good reviews and it made me very happy to find out that I’m the one that gets to review it.

The Sixth Friday the 13th film but only the 4th to star the iconic monster Jason.

Friday the 13th : A New Beginning (1985)

In 1984 the legend of Jason Voorhees was meant to come to a end in the aptly named “The Final Chapter” but like all good things when you realize it is still popular you make the mistake of bringing it back.

A year after “The Final Chapter” a new team of writers and directors brought back the Friday the 13th Franchise for a film that was MEANT to start a new trilogy of films without THE Jason in them. Meant to start it because the film was a bigger flop then all the others with the money intake, whilst still high, starting to fall.

A New Beginning was truly a New Beginning for the Friday the 13th franchise but what went wrong?

Friday the 13th The Final Chapter (1984)

In 1984 Jason Voorhees returned in a film that was meant to kill him off forever.

Ultimately he didn’t stay dead as we know. The film itself was once more met negatively but was successful enough for another Voorhees film to appear a year later.

With another new cast, a completely different feel and a creepy assed kid, Jason came back to once more add as many bodies to his body count as he possibly could. This time out it wasn’t just teens in his way, there no longer was any real reason for his attacks but boy did he go about his business.

Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)

Well they sure loved their Friday the 13th movies didn’t they. A year after the second helping (which came a year after the first helping) we are back with the guardian of Camp Crystal Lake. He hasn’t been stopped yet and he’s still got his grudge against overly sexed up teenagers.

So far we’ve not seen the Jason that comes to mind but Friday the 13th Part 3 (or 3D, yeah it was one of them!) brings together a partnership that would stay with our nightmares forever more.

That is right, for in Friday the 13th Part 3(D) Jason comes across the infamous hockey mask.

Can anything stop the monster from Camp Crystal Lakes horrible past?

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

Five year after Mrs Voorhees went on a murdering spree in Camp Crystal Lake another bunch of counsellors show up at a camp down the road to set up… Well… Camp.

In 1981 Friday 13th returned a year after its original outing. Part 2 actually introduced us to Jason Voorhees for the first time replacing his mother as the monster of the piece killing unexpecting teenagers.

With a change of director and writer Friday the 13th lived on with Jason running wild.

Friday the 13th (1980)

In 1980 director Sean S. Cunningham and writer Victor Miller gave the world the franchise that just keeps on giving. Friday the 13th as a franchise has given us 10 movies, a remake and a cross over with the Nightmare on Elm Street.

It also gave people the world over a fear of a man in a hockey mask and a machete who just can’t be killed.

We follow the many victims of Jason on a week long horror on Friday the 13th.
