Baywatch (2017)

I hated Baywatch as a kid but the new film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron was hard not to want to see.

Just so you know I did buy the Extended Version and I haven’t seen the cut version so don’t know what is different in them. Just thought it needed to be known.

I can’t even remember why I didn’t like Baywatch as a kid but I really didn’t expect to love the film as much as I did and it really was just because of the actors and actresses. None of them took it too seriously which made the jokes even more funny, Dwayne Johnson has always been the most effortlessly funny person, its why I loved him as The Rock as a kid, and he just spent the whole film being the Rock basically. A fast talking, all round decent guy who comes across a conspiracy and needs to work with his team to find out what is going on.

There are two very grizzly deaths in the film yet it never makes the film feel dark. Moments like Ronnie (Jon Bass) feeling sick whilst looking at blood just kept the light fluffy feeling. Mitch (Johnson) has a strange bunch he works with from take no shit Victoria (Priyanka Chopra), sunny and sweet C.J. Parker (Kelly Rohrbach) and recruits Ronnie, Summer (Alexandra Daddario) and forced upon them Matt Brody (Zac Efron), the chemistry between them is just crazy fun and it makes you want to crawl into your TV and join them.

I loved the story, it was interesting and told really well. The businesswoman doing everything to get her own way, the drug deals, the murders and the boss trying to stop Mitch from finding out the truth. If you just read the plot then you’d think it was a really serious drama just staring life guards but it kept the light hearted comedy all the way through.

Plus it had great cameos from the Hoff and Pam. Pam in slow-mo and them pointing it out was the best thing ever. In fact all the little nods to the silly things that Baywatch does and was doing is honestly the greatest.
