DEFIANT Wrestling : Defiant #2

So week one saw the whole landscape change at the top of the Defiant food chain. We have a new champion who isn’t even signed to the company. New faces have come to rescue some old faces and hopefully Prince Ameen has been taken away never to be seen again.

Hopefully.

STU BENNETT

Why oh why does Adam Wilbourn think its a good idea to interrupt Stu Bennett when he’s on the phone? Then again why did Stu Bennett think it was a good idea taking a important phone call just outside the production office? Its like that wrestlers watching TVs backstage things, its one of those strange wrestling questions we can never answer….

THE PRESTIGE vs CCK
Winners : THE PRESTIGE

It is kind of a fall of grace for Hendry from being the main event to being in a tag team opening the show.

I joke of course but that kind of should be what Bradshaw is saying on commentary. It makes a nice change, I keep saying that the top of the mountain has changed in DEFIANT Wrestling and keeping Hendry from the top for a while is a good idea to give this new era a true feel of change.

David Starr joining them is also a great thing but  not as great as him being on commentary.

As Starr took out Kid Lykos before the match Brookes came down to bring the fight to the Prestige on his own and to be honest he couldn’t have had a better start. I know Chris Brookes and I don’t know why I know him, its probably a good sign of just how good a wrestler he is that I knew of him and that he was a good wrestler before I even saw him. He came out and destroyed The Prestige though I don’t think I can watch him with the spit and stuff. I have a weak stomach.

It was a good match and Brookes nearly had them a few times and then Starr ran up to the ring apron and distracted Brookes. It was a good match.

After the match Travis Banks came to help Chris Brookes which raises the question why he didn’t come out to fight the match with him to begin with….

DRAKE

Drake being Drake. I want to see him wrestle not hear him talk.

LIAM SLATER / PASTOR WILLIAM EAVERS / JURN SIMMONS

LIAM SLATER LOOK MORE LIKE YOU’VE BEEN BRAINWASHED OR SOMETHING! DO NOT STAND AROUND BEING PREACHED AT WITH YOUR HANDS IN YOUR HOODIE.

Honestly I love this man but someone needs to shake him a little bit. Jurn is with them, we don’t know where Ameen is and they’ve gone to pray. I do love this group I just wish that Liam Slater would get a bit more into character. He’s still my favourite though.

LITTLE MISS ROXXY vs KAY LEE RAY
DEFIANT WOMENS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
Winner : Kay Lee Ray

So for some reason Roxxy could just come out and demand a championship match after a loss the week before. It didn’t make much sense and is a shame, I felt like they could have really built something interesting for Roxxy but giving her a championship match for no reason just kind of sucked.

It wasn’t a bad match but you kind of knew that Roxxy was going to lose and it just didn’t feel that important of a match.

Hoping that this leads to something interesting with Roxxy still, I do love her and think she’s going to be great. I get a feeling that KLR just shows up for her matches, I’d like to see her actually in a feud and doing something really interesting in the women’s division.

ALEX GRACIE

So we get to know just how angry Gracie was when he had to kiss Fat Ligero’s ass. He was giving a interview to explain himself and his actions and how angry he was at having to kiss someone’s ass. He was actually talking to himself in a mirror because he is Alex Gracie and he’s probably the biggest troll of them all. I love him.

GABRIEL KIDDS ADVENTURE TO FIND PRINCE AMEEN

Yeah that was basically all it was. He burst into Mike Bailey’s room to find out if he knew where Prince Ameen was.

JURN SIMMONS vs ALEX DUNN
Winner : Jurn Simmons

It was a squash match really. Dunn had no chance. He got a few kicks and stuff in but it wasn’t about him at all.

ZACK GIBSON / STU BENNETT

He wants a contract and goes about it by being a big mouth to Stu Bennett. He has a chance next week to get a contract but I feel so bad for Bennett having to deal with these people.

BT GUNN & JOE COFFEY vs PRIMATE & JIMMY HAVOC
TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
Winners : Primate & Jimmy Havoc

It was a fun match, if anything all four of these guys have giant personalities and they bring them out in their matches. It was a lot of fun, the hardcore stipulation didn’t really come into play that much it just meant that they could fight freely on the outside of the ring for a while which gave us the cool moment of Gunn and Havoc in the crowd drinking beer and beating each other up. Of all the people that I can see drinking beer and fighting those two are the ones.

Coffey and Gunn are a great team and they systematically just picked to pieces the tag team champions but the tag team champions are two people who could be killed and their corpses would kick out and carry on. No matter what they did they just couldn’t beat the champions who walked out of the match as champions still.

It is funny how mismatched yet perfect Havoc and Primate are though.

After the match it was another attack by Haskins and Ridgeway to end the show. Still excited to see where that goes!

FINAL THOUGHTS…

Its good to see them building up stories with backstage pieces and making everything and every division seem important. Alex Gracie is back and I can’t wait to see what he’s going to get up to, Pastor William Eavers getting to be creepy backstage is going to be awesome IF Liam Slater stops looking like a little lost child following around his creepy uncle.

Plus why is Liam not seen as a real name? It gets a red squiggly line every time I write it. Liam’s name isn’t even a real name.

I don’t really get the Eavers stuff yet as well, I do think they need to actually give us a mission statement soon. Liam Slater just looks disinterested and as I said like a child walking around after their uncles, Jurn Simmons doesn’t stop smiling which means he’s got to have joined completely on his own merits. Its just kind of messy at the moment. Slater needs to look more into it and get into some kind of character, Simmons if he’s going to be the willing muscle won’t feel that way until we’ve seen him there whilst Eavers preaches because at the moment he just looks like Eavers friendlier and less hairy, and that is saying something, brother whilst Eavers himself is missionless. I know I’ve missed something but I always felt he kept going on at Slater like his only mission in life is being tag team champion.

It was another great episode though.

Will be interesting to see what happens with the women’s division, as I said KLR feels at times like she just comes up for a fight then disappears, I know it isn’t how it is but that is how it feels so it would be nice to see her in a real feud going into Chain Reaction plus they’ve got a few good names that they could use to make a secondary feud which the division really needs.

Tag team wise and the division is really strong and they need to continue to show them off as strong. I know they’ve done the tag team tournament before for the titles back when WCPW were just starting out but I feel they need to do something big with them again at some point. They have a lot of teams but no real story at the moment, I guess that might be because of the IPW stuff seeing the two teams in the championship match were attacked.
