“Chiisana Yaiba -Torosuto-ku Kōbōsen (3)-“(小さな刃 ―トロスト区攻防戦③―)
Having learnt that Eren has been a bit of a ass since childhood and witnessing how Mikasa came to be by his side we now have to see how she reacts to the news that Eren has been eaten by a Titan.
A fate he truly deserved.
Probably not surprising that Episode 7 see’s the biggest turn up for the books yet.
Again everything looks to be going down the toilet for the recruits, Mikasa finds them out of gas and out of options. They are purely sat there waiting to be eaten when the Titans finally pay them any attention.
Its a big episode for Mikasa, Armin and Jean.
Mikasa finds out that Eren has been eaten and gets a little more like Eren by just losing her shit and going off, her motivational speech did nothing. She’s in love with someone who was just killed and because he turned her into a killing machine as a kid she thinks others should react to seeing their friends getting killed the same way she is. Its very emotionally charged yet it has a good effect.
It wakes up the leadership qualities in Jean that you kind of knew was going to be there. Of course he has his little crush on Mikasa so doesn’t want to see her going to her death on her own but he’s actually able to motivate people. He isn’t scared to tell them he’s scared, he isn’t worried what they think. He hadn’t seen a Titan before now, he hadn’t seen what they could do but he was still there and he was going to do something about it. Of all reactions his is understandable.
This leads to Armin having to man up a little and he goes after Mikasa.
So the assault on HQ is underway.
Of course as I said Mikasa has had a bit of a Eren moment and runs out of gas overdoing it. In her emotional state she doesn’t go easy on what little she has left and shows just how much her knowledge in the field lacks right now.
I liked that when she was about to die she realised that she wasn’t going to just let herself die, her body wouldn’t and her mind soon realised that she couldn’t give up. It gave her a bit more character as did the emotional breakdown. The difference is she was still able to function fully and take out Titans. I don’t think Eren would have survived this regardless, he just haphazardly went into battle without thinking and I don’t think he had the ability to fight like Mikasa.
Out of nowhere a Rogue Titan appears and saves Mikasa though. She thinks its a manifestation of humanities fight back noting that it uses hand-to-hand combat and attacks like a human would. All she really knows at this point is that it isn’t attacking her and actually saved her life.
