Sure I’m a few weeks behind but I’m going to get on and attempt to do this from now on.
I’d seen a lot of artwork for it which was what led me to go back and make sure I caught up, from the artwork I’d never guess what we got…
I think it automatically became one of my all time favourites things ever pretty much from the second it started.
The main character Atsushi is sweet. I felt sorry for him from the get go, it didn’t take me long after he was told about the Tiger and told Dazai and Kunikida what he knew about the Tiger for me to work out that he was a ability user and was turning into the Tiger but there was just something so innocent about him and him not knowing. Its like two halves of himself. The carefree sweet version and the wild beast.
We are introduced to a lot of characters, especially at the end, but nothing about the episode felt rushed. It built a great sense of anticipation for the season ahead, you get told these great ability names but have no clue to what they actually do and all of them are eccentric but you haven’t seen how yet other then Dazai and Kunikida.
Talking of them two what a double act?!
I’m real angry at myself that I kept saying I’d watch it and never did because I honestly have never laughed in my life as much as I did getting to know Dazai and Kunikada. Meeting Dazai upside down floating along in a river was one thing, Kunikada then having a break down on the other side of the river whilst Dazai pretty much ignores him had me in stitches and the scene when they were feeding up Atsushi was honestly the greatest.
If I’m honest if you’d described Dazai to me before I’d seen it though I might not have bothered to watch. Being suicidal it would have probably sounded stupid but there was something about him that I just really adored. His relationship with Kunikada was brilliant and I loved when he fooled him into believing that hanging from wooden beams is a health thing that can help your back, Kunikada’s stressy replies gave me life.
What really made me fall in love was how beautiful it all was. Everything about it was lovely. Especially though when Atsushi turned into the Tiger, it was a great scene and one that was very believable. In so far as it looked helluva painful which transformations like that probably SHOULD be. When Dazai then disabled his ability using his own ability (No Longer Human) it was one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve seen.
I loved everything about the episode and quite pissed that I took so long to watch it but its something that I will now binge the next few episodes and catch up with weekly. Look out for the other episode reviews in the next few days!
