The Tooth Fairy (or Easter Bunny, or Santa Claus…) : A fun and harmless fiction, or a pointless justification for lying to children?
I am speechless to why suddenly telling kids about things like the Tooth Fairy would be classed as lying to children. Its silly really.
They are harmless fiction. OK Santa is a little different but the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy are harmless fun that kids can have. Anyone whoo seeks to take that kind of thing away from kids are just grouches.
Like honestly what harm does it do a kid to think a fairy comes and takes their teeth away? By the time they are old enough to know that there is no such thing as a fairy their kiddie teeth will be long gone, they’d have gotten the money they can and forgotten all about it.
Part of life is learning that magic exists if you want to look for it and things like learning that it was actually your parents giving you that money, the dude who gave you a present with a fake beard was just a guy getting paid to have you think he was a mythical being and don’t eat bunny poop because it AIN’T jelly beans are just harmless parts of that process.
The tooth fairy itself is kind of like a tradition for families. No one really is that sad finding out that there is no tooth fairy and loads of kids see it as a sign of growing up when they finally tell their parents “I know the Tooth Fairy isn’t real” because its like breaking into the adult world. My parents no longer can fool me because I’m growing up kind of thing. Then when they have kids of their own its a circle that will never end.
In no way is telling your kids stories to make life a bit more fun when they are young enough to enjoy it justification for lying to kids. It isn’t a lie its a story. Just like my niece thinks that the Iron Giant is real, that there really are giants and wizards and that I have the coolest job in the world. She’s six. She doesn’t need to know that a animated movie (one of the best in the world by the way) isn’t real or based on reality, she doesn’t need to be told that giants and wizards are fake and she REALLY doesn’t want to know I’m actually in a dead end job slowly losing my sanity. When she’s sixteen if she still believes that shit then sure something somewhere has gone wrong but then again who bloody cares?
The world would be a happier place if more people believed in the Tooth Fairy or dragons or just nice magical things. Instead we want to destroy any magic in the world by forcing everyone, even children, to be logical and boring.
(The biggest joke kids face these days is learning phonics. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? My niece is so super smart but when a word doesn’t work in phonics she acts like she’s a failure because the education system 1. is teaching her in the worst possible way and 2. tells her she’s a failure if she gets things wrong.
I know managers, doctors, police officers and whatever else who can’t bloody spell and they probably weren’t taught fucking phonics! Give kids something to take their mind off of the harsh reality that life fucking sucks!)
