Today I’ll catch up with Divine Gate. I kind of wasn’t too sure on it when I watched the first episode, there were a lot of things all mixed in together so some parts really interested me and others didn’t but I finally have found the time to catch up.
We get to spend some time trying to figure out what the hell Akane is all about in this episode. He has daddy issues that’s for sure but the dude doesn’t seem to know whether he’s coming or going. He just gets angry, especially when it comes to families. He’s angry at Aoto for killing his parents, he’s angry at a kid that asks for food because his parents should be looking after him and then instead of looking at how in pain the kids dad was when he tried to save his son he just berates him for not being able to.
A right piece of work.
It swung much more to the dramatic side of things in the episode which I enjoyed and it looks like we are going to learn a little more about each of them in the opening episodes as the next one looks like its about Midori.
All the characters seem to have sad backgrounds. The fact that the guy in the first episode and Aoto’s brother seems to think killing people will lead them to the Divine Gate has me wonder if its something anyone should strive for really. If its all about making a sacrifice to be able to see it then it doesn’t seem to be worth it.
The action was interesting, I liked the drivers, specially Aoto’s which turned into a sword and I guess its nice that he’s joining them properly in the second episode and it won’t be one long trying to get him to join them. Plus the little spirit kid that follows him around is both my favourite character AND a bit creepy at the same time.
I’m not sure I’m following the story very well though as it seems to make little sense to me still but I’m enjoying it.
As for the council themselves Arthur is up to something and his croonies all have super cool names and just are bloody awesome. I think I’ve fallen in love with another anime character and this time they haven’t got red hair. I’m talking about Loki who at some point I will try to draw because he’s just so cool looking. Not sure about Santa Claus yet but he wasn’t too bad.
They aren’t good guys by the looks of them.
Still the one bit of the puzzle I’m most interested in.
I hope we do get a better story for Midori as Akane’s could have been told in seconds and left out all the boring brooding he suddenly had to do.
As for Aoto his story keeps getting weirder and weirder. I had to wonder which of the two brothers he really was at some point. I just have no idea what to make of him or his creepy assed brother.
As I said, not sure I’m fully keeping up with it but still think its awesome.
